Vere Tech has big task today

CAN VERE TECHNICAL High School beat St. Benedict's schoolboys of Trinidad by a margin of four clear goals? If not then the Trinidad champion schoolboy football team will add the Antillean Trophy to their laurels.

Both teams clash again today at Vere, Hayes, Clarendon in the final of a two-match series, to be decided on goal average.

Kicking off at 4.15 p.m. for the Trinidadians will be the same team which defeated Vere Technical 4-1 in their first encounter on Saturday last at the National Stadium.

The Prime Minister, the Hon. Hugh Shearer, will present the trophy to the winners at the end of the game. The teams will also be presented to him before the kick-off.

Coach Derek Tomkinson has made one change to his losing team by bringing in Ruddy Wright in place of Neville Scott at right back.

Skipper Allan Cole although just recovering from illness which forced him not to come out for the second half during the first match as it was raining will again be the key man in his team's line-up.

To help out inside right Cole on the front line will be centre-forward Corsel Blair scorer of his team's lone goal — a penalty — the speedy Arthur Ennis at outside right and Bob Campbell on the left wing.

Their link which was so weak that left back Les Brown had to be brought up in the last half of the first encounter could again prove their downfall if key player, here, Shell Robinson play as badly as he did then.

Brown will have to try his utmost best to hold his defence together as they too easily wilt under pressure. In Sammy Lawrence they have a capable keeper.

However, the St. Benedict's centre forward Wilfred Cave, who proved a menace to the Vere defence last Saturday in scoring all of his team's goals, is a gifted opportunist.

He will have with him two other Trinidad National representatives in skipper Lawrence Rondon at centre half and Dick Furlonge on the right wing.

With Cave and Furlonge on the frontline will be Selwyn Bailey to help them out. Captain Rondon will have Michael Hackette to assist him in breaking up the Vere movements.

Goalkeeper Dave Reuben is safe and linkman Herbert DeLeon at right half is capable of making enough openings for Cave to score sufficient goals for them to win again.
