NEW YORK, April 9 (AP):

AFTER FIVE weeks blending and mixing his team, coach Goodwin of the New York Generals is ready
start the season April 16 with six West Indians and four British players in the squad.

"Our eight defensive players have found the right blend," Goodwin said. "We still lack a bit of strength up front, but the team as a whole is exceptionally fast."

Fastest men on the Generals, who open the season in Los Angeles for the National Professional Soccer League are Warren Archibald and Leroy DeLeon, from Trinidad.

The Generals have just signed up another Austrian, Alex Bandie, and trainer-coach Roy Hartle, from Bolton. Bandie came from the Montreal Italia.

Other acquisitions include Phillipe Vorbe, from Haiti and M. Dragutin from Belgrade. The Generals also have Jan Steadman of Trinidad, Paul Thomas and Neville Oxford, from Jamaica.
