Soccer MVP in San Jose

WARREN ARCHIBALD, the North American Soccer League's Most Valuable Player last season, visits San Jose Saturday as the Earthquakes return home against the Miami Toros.

Archibald scored a league leading 12 goals last year, but was edged out by one point in combined goals-assists points by Dallas' Kyle Rote Jr.

Also on the soccer scene, defending champion Brazil and Yugoslavia will start off the closed circuit television series of the World Cup on June 13. Locally the entire series will be shown at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

Concluding match will be the championship final from Munich Stadium on Sunday, July 7. The opening ceremonies will also be shown before the Brazil vs. Yugoslavia match.

Other opening games will be West Germany vs. Chile. Friday, June 14; Uraguay vs. Netherlands and Argentina vs. Poland, Saturday June 15; Brazil vs. Scotland, Tuesday June 18; Italy vs. Argentina, Wednesday June 19; Scotland vs. Yugoslavia and West Germany vs. East Germany, Saturday June 22; and Italy vs. Poland, Sunday June 23.

Promoters are predicting 800 million fans world-wide will tune in on the finals July 15.
