Sheffield-Lanes Game to Open S.A.F.A. Season On July 15

SAN FERNANDO, July 4 — The Southern Amateur Football Association will begin their 1944 soccer season on Saturday, July 15, with Sheffield, the 1943 shield winners, opposing Lanes, the Rahamut Cup holders. This was decided at the Association's first council meeting held at the Town Hall here last night.

Ten clubs, the same number as last season, will contest honours for the first league shield on the "Big Five" basis.

Of these two are new clubs. Victoria, the intermediate champions, and Catholic Youths, who will replace the history-making First Battalion and the Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery, as those two last mentioned clubs have not taken entry.

Shylock was the only one of the new clubs applying for entry that was rejected.

The following committees were appointed for the S.A.F.L. [sic, S.A.F.A.] 1944 football season:—

Referee's Committee:—Mr. E. Marache, Mr. V. Noel and Mr. L. Jaggernauth.

Emergency Committee: Mr. E. A. Durity, Mr. H. McDavid and Mr I. Bissessar.

Selection Committee: Mr. E. A. Durity, Mr. H. McDavid, Mr. V. Noel, Mr. E. Marache and Mr. L Jaggernath.

Representatives on T.A.F.A. Council:—Mr. E. Durity, Councillor E. C. Crawford and Councillor V. Ramseran.

Fixtures Committee:—Mr. V. Noel and Mr. H. McDavid.

Assistant Secretaries: Mr. G. Hassanali, Mr. J. George and Mr. John Alleyne.

Disciplinary Committee:—Mr. E. A. Durity, Mr. V. A. Noel, Councillor V. C. Ramseran, Mr. I. Bissessar and Mr. E. Marache.
