U.S. Youth Gain

The United States youth national soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the North American-Central American-Caribbean regional youth championships by defeating Trinidad-Tobago, 1-0, Monday night in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

David Smythe, 18 years old, of Hicksville, L.I., scored the Americans' goal. The United States will play Mexico and Canada will play El Salvador in the semifinals tonight. The winners will meet in the final Friday night. Both finalists automatically qualify for the Youth World Cup next year in Chile.
