The Los Angeles Aztecs have scored a surprise 2-1 victory over Monterrey and they're optimistic about they're future.

"This is going to be an outstanding team," said goalie Kelvin Barclay, who made 10 saves in the triumph Sunday.

"If we stay together like this I don't see many teams in the North American Soccer League beating us."

The Aztecs will play three more pre-season games before opening their 20-game league season May 5. The fifteen-team NASL brings professional soccer back to Los Angeles for the first time in several years.

A reported 12,249 fans watched as Uri Banhoffer and Jerry Kazarian scored to give the Aztecs a 2-0 lead over the Mexican professional team. Monterrey got one goal back in the 79th minute on a 15 yard shot by Basilio Salazar.
