JAMAICA'S SCHOOLBOY football champions, Vere Technical High School, have returned home from Trinidad where they gave a good account of themselves on and off the field. The quality of football they played was good, despite the tight tour schedule in which the Vere boys were asked to play as many as six matches in 11 days.

Defeat of the Trinidad schoolboy champions, St. Mary's College, by four goals to nil is a clear indication of the superiority of Jamaica's schoolboy footballers over those of Trinidad. The Jamaican schoolboys were termed in a television broadcast after the St. Mary's match as "the best overseas team to tour Trinidad for a long time."

I am happy to hear that the Trinidadian schoolboys are to be invited to tour Jamaica this year, Derek Tomkinson, the Vere Technical coach, told me so in a discussion we had on the tour. A visit like this would prove popular and be a financial success.

Coach Tomkinson denied to me that he stated in Trinidad that "the turning point in two matches the Vere Technical team was beaten was the referee's decision." Such a useful football tournament should not be marred by criticism of refereeing. It was a good tour, and we are pleased with the performance and sportsmanship of the Vere Technical team.
