PORT OF SPAIN, October 22:

THE coming tour of the MCC to the West Indies, and air passages, have deprived Trinidad fans from seeing a Surinam football team in action in Port of Spain.

On Tuesday night, Andre Kamperveen, former centre forward, and now Surinam's coach, flew in from Paramaribo to arrange the match for Surinam against Trinidad.

The team would be returning from Curacao on Sunday, after playing in the first round of the Olympic eliminations, and wanted to play here Tuesday.

But when Sonny Vincent Brown, Acting Secretary of the Trinidad Football Association approach the Oval for the use of its grounds he was told that the field was being prepared for the MCC tour.

Then, when it was thought of playing the match at South Trinidad instead, it was learnt that no airline would be able to fly out the team of 20 either Tuesday, or any day next week when Surinam has a return engagement at home with Curacao.

So Kamperveen flew home last night a disappointed man.
