PORT OF SPAIN, March 9:

THE determined Barbados football team defeated British Guiana at Queen's Park Oval here today.

The underdogs of the quadrangular series, upset British Guiana two goal to one before the smallest crowd of the tournament in which Jamaica and Trinidad are also participating.

Within 60 seconds of the start the Barbadians were a goal down. British Guiana moved upfield from the kick-off. Barbados right back Grant miskicked leaving Pieters no alternative but to beat the advancing goalkeeper, Cammie Smith, with a swift grounder.

From early Barbados showed they had an outstanding player on the field, inside right, Reggie Haynes, who schemed his way through the Guianese defence and tried deft shots which just missed the mark.

Haynes did not get either of Barbados' goals, though he figured in one of the movements.

With 10 minutes to go, Barbados right winger Evelyn drove a grounder across the goal which left half Stewart deflected past goalkeeper McGowan.

Barbados carried and kept the ball in the Guianese area and in another three minutes Downes rammed home a grounder.
