Smith, Bayliss, Williams get nod

DUDLEY SMITH and Dickie Bayliss of Melbourne and Bobby Williams of St. George's Old Boys have been selected by the Caribbean Football Association as Jamaica's representatives on the 16-man CFA team to tour Surinam during the first two weeks of December.

Mr. Eric James, secretary of the CFA, accompanies the team as manager and sole selector with Joey Gonsalves of Trinidad as skipper of the team.

The Jamaica Football Association originally recommended six players to the CFA. Those players were Smith, Bayliss and Noel Tappin of Melbourne, Bobby Williams and Karl Largie of St. George's Old Boys and Lester Alcock of Montego Bay.

Arrangements have been concluded to have the players from the various colonies in Surinam by December 4 as the tournament is scheduled to commence on December 7. Five matches will be played including three Tests against Surinam.

The touring team will use the CFA's colours of Royal Blue jerseys with white vertical stripes, Royal Blue sleeves and stockings to match for the first time. On the jersey will be a crest depicting a hand grasping all the flags of the different affiliated territories.

All Test games will be of ninety minutes duration and a Cup will be presented for championship of the series.

December 7: CFA vs Surinam.
December 9: CFA vs Club XI.
December 11: CFA vs Surinam.
December 14: CFA vs Surinam.
December 16: CFA vs Surinam.

The Surinam series will replace the Caribbean championship series which was previously scheduled to take place this year but which has been cancelled because of the fact that certain colonies would not be able to participate.

It was decided at first that the touring team would include players from Trinidad, British Guiana, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Haiti and Puerto Rico but no players from Haiti are available and Guadeloupe's big stars are away filling professional soccer contracts.

On December 5 and 6 the Caribbean Football Association will be meeting in Surinam to discuss plans for the staging of their championships in 1953 and the possibility of a tour to Europe by a Caribbean team in 1954.

Dudley Smith will be Jamaica's official delegate at this meeting.
