STOP THEM plan for Delapenha and Heron

JAMAICA'S SOCCER, bolstered by the inclusion of Lindy Delapenha and Gillie Heron, face the Caribbean All-Stars in the first of a four-game Test series at Sabina Park this afternoon.

Three thousand fans watched the teams in the final work-out yesterday and a record crowd is expected today to see a soccer classic.

Jamaica invitees will march onto the field behind the Jamaica Military Band, then line up before His Excellency the Governor Sir Hugh Foot on the dais. The flags of the CFA and JFA will be hoisted and all players return to the dressing rooms after which the participating players return to be introduced to the Governor.

Jamaica's team, named yesterday afternoon at 5.45, is:

Ronnie Cooper, goal; Danny Sharrers (Melbourne) right back; George Prescod (Lucas) left back; Dickie Bayliss (Melbourne) right half; Dudley Smith (Melbourne) capt., centre half; Karl Largie (St. Geo. O. B.) left half; Buddy Josephs (Kensington) outside right; Lindy Delapenha (Middlesbrough) inside right; Noel Tappin (Melbourne) centre forward; Gillie Heron (Glasgow Celtic) inside left; Vivian Coy (Printing Office) outside left. Reserves Dudley Beek, Freddie Greene (Melbourne) Icar Lawrence (Kensington).

Manager Eric James will name the All-stars team at noon today. Certainties so far are Joey Gonsalves, Gerry Parsons, Allan Joseph, Rudie Kamperveen, Michael Kruin and Andre Vieux.

Many hours have been spent by the high command of the touring team planning a formation play to bottle Heron and Delapenha and Allan Joseph, the master pivot, is the key figure in plan 'STOP THEM.' Their inside forwards are wing halves will support Joseph in defence whilst their wing forwards are entrusted with the attack.

How well can Jamaica face the task? I have not got the highest confidence in the mobility of the backline and there is some doubt whether Heron's utility would not have been greater over the ball.

KEY MEN IN TODAY'S SOCCER TEST between Jamaica and the Caribbean All-Stars at Sabina Park are (L to R) Joey Gonsalves of Trinidad leading the All-Stars; Gillie Heron, brilliant Jamaican inside forward engaged as a professional with Glasgow Celtic in Scotland, turning out at inside left for Jamaica; Lindy Delapenha, Jamaican star of Middlesbrough in English FA, at inside right (Delapenha came in from London yesterday at 10.45 a.m.); and Dudley Smith, captain of the Jamaica team.
