U.S. Wins World Cup Match, 2-1

Mark Peterson scored with 1:40 left last night to give the United States a 2-1 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in a qualifying game for soccer's 1986 World Cup.

The United States, Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago are competing in a second-round qualifying series for the World Cup finals in Mexico. The group winner faces Canada and Honduras in the final qualifying round to determine who will go to next year's finals.
