Aztec forward McMillan voted rookie of year

NEW YORK (AP) — Forward Doug McMillan of the Los Angeles Aztecs has been selected rookie of the year in the North American Soccer League and Miami Toros' John Young coach of the year.

McMillan and Young were both born in Scotland. In winning the rookie of the year award McMillan, a member of the United States national soccer team, beat Miami's Steve David and Baltimore Comet forward Keith Aqui.

During the recently-concluded season, McMillan, 29, finished third in the battle for scoring honors with 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points. San Jose's Paul Child won the scoring race with 36 points followed by Baltimore's Peter Silvester who had 32.

Two years ago McMillan was MVP in the American Soccer League when he played with the Cleveland Stars.
