ZURICH, Switzerland, Aug. 17 (Reuters):
THE INTERNATIONAL Football Federation (FIFA) has disqualified Surinam from the preliminary qualifying round for the Olympic soccer tournament giving victory to Trinidad and Tobago.
A FIFA spokesman said tonight the decision to disqualify Surinam was taken because their team included a professional in one of its two matches against Trinidad and Tobago.
He said the Federation had an official statement from the Brazilian National Federation that the player had taken part in ten professional matches in Brazil.
As a result of the FIFA decision Trinidad-Tobago, which was beaten by Surinam, now goes through to the second of three qualifying rounds in which it will meet the Netherlands Antilles.
