PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, June 5, (Reuters):
COVENTRY CITY, winners of the Second Division of the English football league, yesterday defeated the Trinidad National team 4-3 here.
Trinidad led 2-1 at half time but faltered after key players Alvin Corneal and Richard Stewart suffered injuries.
Coventry opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Trinidad fullback Selwyn Murren deflected Machin's free kick past goalkeeper Lincoln Phillips.
But goals by Gerry Brown and Bertrand Grell earned the home side the lead at the interval.
In the second half, Gould whipped in two goals for Coventry and Hills added another before Brown got his second goal of the day.
Coventry were scheduled to leave today for two weeks vacation in Barbados as part of a reward for their play during the just-concluded English season.
