Howard Varsity Scores 2-1 Win
Howard University used a trick and a treat combination Saturday as their junior varsity and varsity soccer teams swept Frostburg College's booters at the nation's capital.
The treat was a 9-0 romp over the Bobcat junior varsity, and the trick was a deceptive maneuver late in the varsity game which gave Howard a come-from-behind 2-1 win.
Frostburg had taken a one-goal lead on Fred Dayton's tally on a pass from John Chaney, but a rash of injuries which occurred during the contest put the Bobcats' backs to the wall against the rugged home team.
Asomani Nixon tied the score in the final quarter on an assist from Betram Cooke, and Howard then crossed Frostburg up by switching two fullbacks to the forward wall. Right fullback George Warner scored on a pass from left fullback Carlton Briggs to complete the weird play.
Frostburg's varsity is now 2-5-1 and wind up their season next Saturday at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The jayvees final encounter of the year will come on West Virginia Wesleyan's home field.
