Workmen are busy day and night renovating and enlarging the stadium from a capacity of 7,000 to 20,000 for the Central American soccer tournament, beginning February 29 and ending March 21. Floodlight installation is being rushed for the first night games ever to be held in Guatemala.
El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Curacao and Guatemala will be participating. Acceptance of Venezuela, Colombia and Jamaica are awaited with the final acceptance date February 16. Puerto Rico, Haiti, Trinidad and the Dominican Republic declined to attend.
Fans here believe Costa Rica and Panama have the strongest teams. The game is scheduled to be determined by drawing. A technical committee composed of two representatives from each country will be in charge.
Jamaica received the invitation some months ago but found she was unable to accept.
