PORT OF SPAIN, Sept. 24:

TRINIDAD staved off a fighting second half rally by Martinique on Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain, this afternoon to win the Southern Caribbean Football Championship.

A capacity crowd saw Trinidad hold Martinique, conquerors of professional Club from France, Colombia and the British Amateurs, Middlesex Wanderers to a goalless draw.

The first two matches of the four game series were drawn, then Trinidad clipped Martinique 3-1 on Thursday on a slippery surface.

Trinidad retained her victory team today, and in the first half played like true champions. They were superior to Martinique, and dominated play. Wingers Son Baptiste and Alvin Corneal were always dangerous, and both came near scoring.

Martinique's few goal movements were spoilt by attempting to move too close in before shooting.

But after the [illegible] on, Martinique were on the attack. They found [illegible] defence and [illegible] Corneal had to fall back to help out.

But the nearest Martinique came to scoring was when a shot from Jean Baptiste had goalie Gomez beaten then struck the upright.
