An enjoyable dinner, followed by bright and humorous speeches was the fare of a gathering of close upon 100 given by the Jamaica Football Association last night at the pavilion of the Kingston Cricket Club, Sabina Park, to honour the visiting Trinidad players.
Mr. G. M. daCosta, J.P., President of the Jamaica Football Association presided and led off with a witty speech covering a wide area of sport and allied subjects, in which he voiced a true Jamaica welcome to the visitors.
Among those whom he coupled and who replied were Mr. Richardson, manager of the team, Mr. Pryor Jones, the captain, and Mr. James, secretary of the Trinidad Amateur Football Association.
Mr. daCosta extended thanks to the press representatives and through them their papers for the great help they had given.
He next asked Major Allen, captain of the Jamaica team to speak. This done, Mr. daCosta extended a welcome and expressed thanks to Mr. L. V. D. Samuel, President of the Kingston Cricket Club, for past and present courtesies extended by the Club.
Mr. Samuel briefly replied, and supported Mr. daCosta in his sincere welcome to the visitors.
The function ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
