TRINIDAD and Tobago's national football team on Tuesday beat visiting British first division side Newcastle United 1-0.

A goal by Dexter Skeene in the 14th minute was enough to beat the visiting team which was playing without its star player, Brazilian Mirandinha.

Mirandinha returned home from Britain with an injury and was unable to join the team in Trinidad.

The game took place at Port of Spain's Queen's Park Oval.

Trinidad and Tobago came fresh to the game from an Olympic qualifying match in El Salvador in which they beat the home team by 1-0.

Last week Trinidad and Tobago beat Guyana by the same margin in a World Cup qualifying match at home.

Newcastle moves on to play Jamaica this Sunday.
